Team Identity & Legacy

Few teams carry the cultural weight of the Boston Red Sox. Founded in 1901, the franchise soared early, winning five World Series titles by 1918 — and then endured the infamous 86-year championship drought known as the Curse of the Bambino, allegedly triggered by selling Babe Ruth to the Yankees.

That curse was emphatically broken in 2004 with an epic postseason run and a historic comeback against — who else? — the Yankees. Since then, Boston has added multiple titles to its trophy case and remains a perennial force in the AL.

The Red Sox are about pride, passion, and occasionally breaking hearts — theirs or yours.

Stadium Spotlight

Fenway Park is the oldest stadium in Major League Baseball, having opened in 1912. With its manually operated scoreboard, quirky field dimensions, and the towering Green Monster in left field, it’s less a ballpark and more a living time capsule.

With a capacity just over 37,000, it’s one of the smallest venues in the majors — but also one of the loudest, especially come October.

Rivalries & Big Games

No rivalry in baseball (or perhaps all of sports) is as intense as:

  • New York Yankees: The feud that brought us Bucky Dent, Pedro vs. Zimmer, and the 2004 ALCS miracle.
  • Tampa Bay Rays: A newer but growing rivalry, fuelled by playoff clashes.
  • Baltimore Orioles & Toronto Blue Jays: Familiar AL East foes that bring the heat.

Fan Culture & Traditions

Red Sox Nation is everywhere — and they never forget.
Whether they’re singing “Sweet Caroline” in the 8th inning or screaming about a call from 1986, Boston fans are known for their loyalty, intensity, and encyclopedic knowledge of pain and glory.

Traditions include:

  • Singing “Sweet Caroline” every home game
  • Saluting the Pesky Pole
  • Wearing lucky gear from 2004 until it disintegrates
  • Pointing out that “at least we’re not the Yankees” in most conversations

Did You Know?

Fenway Park’s Green Monster stands 37 feet tall and has a manually operated scoreboard — one of only two left in Major League Baseball.
